Pg. 51 In problem 4-3 the equation for x should read: x = (4.9 m/s2)t2
Pg. 81 In the equation for the work the 0.4 and 0.3 should be cubed, as indicated in the formula, not squared. This makes the answer 25 J.
Pg. 87 In problem 8-4 a 5.0 kg block is specified, but the diagram, and the remainder of the problem use a 3.0 kg block. Change 5.0 to 3.0 in the statement of the problem
Pg. 127 In the last equation on the page the second term in the parentheses should be 10 kg/4. This makes the next equation v2 = 67 m/s2 and v = 8.2 m/s.
Pg. 182 In problem 18-2 the pressures stated in the problem should be in Atm, not Pa.
Pg. 190 In the Solution the word "diatomic" should be "monotomic."
Pg. 218 In the statement of problem 22-3 the displacement is required at 0.20, 0.40, and 0.60 m. One of the calculations is at x = 0.40 m, not 0.40 mm.
Pg. 246 In the solution to problem 26-3, about half way down the page, the units to the answer should be Nm2/C.
Pg. 259 In the
binomial expansion, about two-thirds down the page, the third term should be
(1/2)(-1/2)(b4/2a4). The following expression for V
is correct as is equation 27-6.
Pg. 307 In the
problem marked C the expressions for m and Dm should have B squareds in them.
Pg. 311 In the last
calculation on the page the voltage should be 2.0 V, not the Hall voltage, and
this makes the resistivity 1.0 W×m.
Pg. 321 In the
second line under Fig. 35-4 “The electric force . . .” could be replaced
with “The force . . .”
Pg. 323 In problem 35-5 the calculation is from
0.050 to 0.10 m. These are the numbers
used throughout the rest of the problem.
Pg. 327 The
Biot-Savart integral is not the same as the one done in problem 25-5. It is much easier. Follow the procedure in
problem 25-5 to verify the result.
Pg. 328 In problem 36-3 the y squared term can be
replaced with a squared, because the problem has circular symmetry.
Pg. 338 In problem 37-8 “The work performed” should
read “The power required.” Replace W with P.
Pg. 344 Change “conductor” to “inductor.”
Pg. 391 The labels
for the focal length and the image distance should be interchanged.
