The specification of the asymptote is incorrect. It is true that as x goes to infinity, the equation looks like y » x. But the graph is close to the origin so it is necessary to obtain the asymptote in this region from long division. Divide x2 by x - 1 to get x + x/x - 1. This produces the correct asymptote line y = x + 1.
Pg. 139
In problem 9-8 in the statement of the problem it should read the ln u = 1.4, rather than 14.
In the last statement of the solution u = 4.05, rather than 5.68.
Pg. 140 add “In problem 9-11 the differential . . .”
