BACKGROUND Scientific editing was first offered through Oman Consulting, Inc, a Florida corporation with the main effort now centered in Singapore. Scientific editing is a service to authors writing for English language publications. We work with words either for print, audio, video or Internet use. The Internet site, www.rdoman.com, describes some of our work and contains information on Dr. Robert Oman, principal editor and coordinator for the editing service. In addition to "in house" people we partner with other writers and specialists who bring their unique expertise to bear on our client's needs.
EXPERIENCE For over 13 years we have been working primarily with a partner outside the US providing editing services to authors submitting papers to English language journals. This has worked well and the relationship continues. While the specific client names and institutions are confidential the institutions represented by our authors have been major universities, research institutes and corporations. Over this time we have edited many hundreds of papers. In addition to the written word we have provided audio tapes for presentation at meetings.
EDITORS Dr. Oman, who has so far done much of the editing, is assisted by an "in house" grammarian and a computer specialist. We have recently developed an agreement with an editor with specialty in biology, medicine, dental and the general health areas. This editor is from a prestigious medical institute in the US. In addition to editing, Dr. Oman has authored books and done "ghost writing" for scientific organizations. "Ghost writing" means developing a written description of a scientific process or creating scientific scenarios. We are prepared to offer "ghost writing" and book editing in most disciplines.
CHARGES We work and charge by the word. There is a charge for handling and a per word charge for editing. This charge depends on the length of the paper (the longer the paper the smaller the per word charge) and the difficulty (based on the editors input and the number of changes). Rechecks, where we have questions about a meaning or need clarification are at a much reduced rate, usually $50.00 or less. We also handle correspondence with reviewers, a task that is quite difficult for many non-native English speaking writers. Our regular turn around time is 12 days. A five day express service is available at a 50% premium (1.5 times regular charge).
ADVANTAGES Let us help you prepare a quality paper, one that will be read and understood because it is clear. The same is true for correspondence with reviewers. We do not consider our work complete until your paper is accepted for publication.
CONFIDENTIALITY All correspondence is confidential. The name of the author(s) does not leave this office or the office of whomever is assigned to manage your job. The editors do not know the clients and the clients do not know the editors. We use coded names so you can request a specific editor and so that you will have the same editor throughout the process of preparing your paper for publication. All editors execute a confidentiality agreement with us.
COST GUARANTEE When you send us a manuscript for editing, we will give you a written estimate for the editing guaranteed to within 10% and a detailed breakdown of the charges. Billing for the work will be at the time the paper is returned to you. Each editing and recheck is separate. Payment should be within 30 days. We can accept US or Singaporean funds. We use Paypal, a very secure payment service, so can accept payment in nearly any currency.
